Winter, summer and fall 2023: climbing, walking and mountaineering in the Scottish Highlands

Totally embarrassed that my last post is over a year old it is about time for an update. as ever APM has had another busy year in the hills.

With the colder temperatures and a small dusting of snow on Ben Nevis this morning 10th October 2023 it is time to reflect on 2023 as we prepare for another winter season.

This winter was challenging and a flexible approach was essential to get the best out of the conditions. Some superb winter conditions in mid January were followed by leaner conditions into February and even days where higher temperatures allowed for some sunny days rock climbing. In March we got some good ice and climbs on the East Face of Aonach Mor were in great condition.

In April I escaped to Leonidio in Greece for some personal climbing before heading home for May and June where great stable weather allowed for fantastic days in the Cuillin and Scottish Rock at its best.

Another personal trip to Lofoton in late June/ July allowed me to discover another fantastic  rock climbing venue. The midnight sun shone and several days were spent climbing perfect granite.

Unfortunately August and September were very unsettled but we made the most of it and special congratulations to Oli Cunningham who topped out on Cairngorm summit in his X8 Chair. Also to Ian who faced his nemesis on the Inaccessible Pinnacle.

Autumn is here now and days spent Munro bagging with many has rounded off the year before the finale of working for the Martin Moran Foundation http://www.martinmoranfoundation.co.uk

Its then back to Spain for some sun until the snow hopefully arrives for another winter season.

Thank you to all my clients new and old who keep APM afloat.
